Interviewing Gena Tudor

Gena Tudor
Romania

Jewellery artist from Bucharest, Romania she began her career on film sets among costumes and special effects at an early age. She started studying jewellery 7 years ago, her work is based on different types of metals and one of her favourite techniques is lost wax casting, that gives her the chance to create organic and fluid forms.

- What is the name of your brand and what's the meaning behind it?
The name of my brand is Gena Tudor, my name. The reason for choosing this name is because I wanted it to be straight forward.

- Where do you take inspiration from when you start creating a new collection?
From nature, from stories, from mythology and from organic. The concept for my collections come mainly from mythology and historic events. As for the shapes and designs for each piece of jewelry, the are rooted in nature and its organic and fluid forms.

- What kind of work or material or technique do you prefer to use?
I love wax casting technique and as materials I work with silver, silk cocoons and different types of textiles. My favorite technique is wax casting for it gives me the liberty to create any form I can imagine. I don’t really have a favorite material, but I work mainly in metal and I like to combine it with other textures such as textiles and wood.

- Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project.
If I were to resume the Artistar Jewels project I would have to say provocation, excitement and joy. :)

- Have you been fascinated by any particular creation you saw in the Artistar jewels 2019 edition?
I loved the work of the designer Nina Oikawa.

- What were the opportunities that most pushed you to participate in the event?
I loved the idea of the catalogue and the fact that I could present my work in such a established and amazing exhibition.

- What do you think about the upcoming Milano Jewelry Week? Do you think Milano needed it?
I think is an amazing ideea, being the capital of fashion I think it is a perfect fit for Milano and I believe it will be a great succes.
