Laura Agnello Modica
Italy
My name is Laura Agnello Modica, I am 32 years old and I live in the province of Bergamo. Always attracted by the art world and - in particular - the sculpture, I attended the Liceo Artistico of Bergamo, Discipline Plastiche address, where I looked out for the first time in the world of Gioiello d'Autore, looking in particular to Alexander Calder. I continued my studies in Sculpture at the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Brescia, where I graduated with honors. Following courses for goldsmiths, in 2016 I obtained the Jewelery Design Master at the Milan Polytechnic.
- When did you start dedicating yourself to the world of contemporary jewelry?
I started to dedicate myself to the world of contemporary jewelry during the years of the Academy, starting to experiment with materials and combinations of metals, resins and natural elements.
- What do you draw most inspiration from when you start creating a new collection?
I love taking inspiration from Nature, not so much from its elements, but from the feelings and emotions that it gives me. I often go to green places close to the water alone and I keep listening. Often personal events (especially painful ones) are also a source of inspiration; "Amazing Path", the jewel that I presented at the event, is a breast ornament born to pay tribute to the battle against cancer won by my mother.
- What kind of work or material do you prefer?
I work mainly with the lost wax casting technique. I especially love steel, its hardness and its luster. I often combine it with warmer materials such as wood; not infrequently my works are embellished with stones set, which for me represent the embryonic stage of sculpture, where everything can still become.
- What are your points of reference in the world of contemporary jewelry and art?
Alexander Calder, he who was my first love.
- Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project.
Young, innovative, dynamic
- What do you think of the jewels that were on show this year? Have you been fascinated by any particular creation?
I enjoyed so many works, I find that it was a very rich exposition under the poetic aspect. The materials used are also very interesting.
- Would you recommend to other artists to take part in Artistar Jewels?
Yes, I think it's a good opportunity for growth and comparison!
