AMARIN Jewelry
Russia
She received a financial education but was always interested in art and design. "M1" is her first serious collection and the result of the first year of studying at the Jewelry design course in the “British Higher school of Art and Design” in Moscow, Russia. She found inspiration in screws, nuts and gears.
- What do you take inspiration from when you start creating a new collection?
Creating a new collection I am inspired by ordinary everyday things. I like different mechanisms and there are some jewelry with mechanical elements in each collection. So my first collection «M1», with which I participated in the Artistar 2018, is all about different mechanisms and moving elements. Another collection «CORK» has a corkscrew pendant with moving parts. In the latest «FOLK» collection there is a ring with rotating part – a wheel from the old-times cart.
- What kind of work or material do you prefer?
In my work I use literally any material – precious and non-precious ones. I really enjoy using and combining something unusual. Thus, in the CORK collection, I combined polished gilding not with gems, but with wine corks. In FOLK collection - a hand-painted natural wood with sterling silver.
- What are your points of reference in the world of contemporary jewelry and art?
I try to follow the news, trends, exhibitions and contests in contemporary art. But it is important for me to create in unique and recognizable style with non-standard approach and design solutions.
- Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project.
Interesting
Challenging
Prestigious
- What do you think of the jewels that were on show this year? Have you been fascinated by any particular creation?
I liked the contest as all participants and jewels were very different and unusual. Designers’ solutions were works both close to the classical jeweler, and unusual creative artworks made of non-traditional materials. Especially I was admired by jewelry made from tin can pull-tabs - an interesting and unusual idea.
- Would you recommend to other artists to take part in Artistar Jewels?
Yes, I’ve already recommended it to my colleagues from British Higher School of Design, some of them are going to participate this year.
- What were the services / opportunities that most pushed you to participate in the event?
Prestigious place and time of the exhibition and thePossibility to be published in European jewelry editions!
