United States
She studied Arts at Hampshire College and The Fashion Institute of Technology. Her signature is unmistakable: sculptural, organic and bold, creating ‘Statement Pieces’ that take on an “otherworldly” magical look. All pieces are handmade and one of a kind, designed in her NYC studio.
-When did you start dedicating yourself to the world of contemporary jewelry?
I started to make jewelry seriously about 6 years ago; prior to that it was a part time hobby.
-What do you take from as inspiration when you start creating a new collection?
I am always observing the world around me, as I presume anyone with an artistic sensibility would do…sights, sounds, colors, shapes. It is easy to get drawn in to ‘trends’ and to be influenced superficially by the work of others, fashion or art trends. It’s crucial to keep an “inner eye” focused on what is truly personal to ones self and to be inspired and motivated by honest impulses. Mostly, I am inspired by my materials and the minerals I select. That being said…as a New Yorker, I am constantly being impressed by the active and colorful city that surrounds me… Inspiration is everywhere!
-What kind of work or material do you prefer?
I appreciate simple and sculptural pieces, but prefer to work in more ornate, textural materials. I am dedicated to working with raw minerals and love the resin mesh material that is my signature and unique to me!
-Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project.
Lux, Relevant, Inspiring
-What do you think of the jewels that were on show this year? Have you been fascinated by any particular creation?
I’m so impressed by the quality of work from this year’s show. As with last year’s entries, the works are creative and technically so well crafted. I fell in love with the high end “glamour” pieces as well as the more subtle and refined simpler pieces. All are Winners in my estimation!
-How would you define the atmosphere created on the 22nd and 23rd February nights of Artistar Jewels 2018?
There was palpable anticipation and excitement in the room! The designers were all friendly and there was a true feeling of camaraderie among the attendees. Everybody was happy to be there. I think the organizers did an excellent job leading up to the event, both in the social media advertising and in dividing the opening events into two nights.
-Would you recommend to other artists to take part in Artistar Jewels?
Yes, definitely.
-What were the services / opportunities that most pushed you to participate in the event?
A legitimate “business” trip to Milan!!!!
